CAMERON PARISH OFFICE OF HOMELAND SECURITY

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

Parish Status – 10/14/08 – 7:00 P.M.
Evacuations remain in effect in Holly Beach and Johnson Bayou. The mandatory evacuation has been lifted in Hackberry, Grand Lake/Sweet Lake and the town of Cameron. The CURFEW REMAINS IN EFFECT in all areas of the Parish with the exception of Grand Lake/Sweet Lake and Hackberry.  Curfew hours remain in effect between the hours of 8 PM to 6 AM.  
Law Enforcement, EMS, FIRE, & MEDICAL SERVICES are in place. The Cameron Hospital Emergency room is staffed and open 24/7 for Emergencies only.
The following areas remain under a (BOIL ORDER) – Holly Beach and Johnson Bayou. Big Lake NOW HAS POTABLE WATER.  All other areas have (POTABLE WATER).  Cameron residents in water district 1 are asked to call and cancel their service if they are not returning.  There will be no charge to place it back in service.  Bills are to go out the 15th.
TEMPORARY HOUSING HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO OCT. 28, 2008
RED CROSS IS NO LONGER SERVING MEALS IN CAMERON PARISH
POD #1 WILL CLOSE EFFECTIVE 15 OCT. REMAINING ICE AVAILABLE AT SAME LOCATION, FIRST COME FIRST SERVE.
POD #2 HAS MOVED TO JOHNSON BAYOU: 5556 GULF BEACH HWY.
Electrical Power is available at 100% in all areas.  Customers are being reconnected to the power grid only after electrical system repairs have been made and only after Parish inspectors approve the electrical repair/rework.
Roads are currently being repaired by LADOTD – Hwy 82 from Cameron Ferry West to Johnson Bayou has been temporally repaired and is CURRENTLY open to traffic.
Creole – Road washed out along Gulf Coast Highway (Trosclair Road) Work is progressing.
Black Bayou Bridge is closed until further notice. Big Lake Bridge is open for normal operations.
Causeway Bridge on Hwy 82 on Louisiana/Texas line has reopened to normal loads as posted.  Marine traffic is not allowed.
Cameron ferry is open for normal operations.
Residents are reminded that the - SPEED LIMIT IS CURRENTLY 45 MPH THROUGHOUT CAMERON PARISH. Severe shoulder damage remains throughout Cameron Parish.
NO fishing is allowed along Hwy 27/82 anywhere in Cameron Parish until further notice.
A Burn ban is in effect for all of Cameron Parish.

FEMA Disaster Recovery Center in Lake Charles, LA-Trinity Baptist Church Fellowship Hall -1701 Ryan St. Open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, 7 days per week.        
FEMA Disaster Recovery Center in Hackberry, La.- Hackberry Community Center, 986 Main Street.  Open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM 7 days a week.
      
Until a debris management plan can be put in place, only Industry related cleanup companies with documented contracts will be allowed into the Parish for debris clean up and removal.
Private debris removable contractors soliciting business will not be allowed in the Parish until the debris management plan can be established.
Residents and business owners should beware of contractors claiming that all debris removal is FEMA reimbursable. These companies should not be working in the Parish until further notice.  Insurance companies should be consulted before any clean up begins.  Only under limited circumstances and limited amounts may be accepted and this is only after all insurance issues have been settled.
Civil Court Jury duty for 29 September, 2008 is canceled until further notice.  The District Attorney will reissue subpoenas when court reopens.

HACKBERRY AREA:

  1. POD #2 (Point of distribution) has been moved from Hackberry Community center to 5556 Gulf Beach Hwy. in Johnson Bayou.

 

GRAND LAKE/SWEET LAKE:

  1. Water has been tested and is potable for the Grand Lake/Sweet Lake area.
  2. The Big Lake area NOW HAS POTABLE WATER.
  3. Curfew lifted Tuesday 9/23/08

 

CAMERON, CREOLE, GRAND CHENIER AND AREAS EAST OF CHANNEL:

  1. Hospital is now open for emergency operations only. (Temp on Generator)
  2. Cameron Courthouse basement is being cleaned and washed.
  3. Cameron Sewer to be pumped out and serviced operating sewer system with pump trucks.
  4. Courthouse two top floors now running switched to line power on 26 September, 2008.
  5. Large A/C unit being set up to cool and dehumidify courthouse, basement is cleaned and dried out.
  6. Point of distribution is set up beside Cameron Court House on Henry Street

Hours of operation are: 8am to 6pm
           
Citizens must have proof of Cameron Parish residency

 

HOLLY BEACH / JOHNSON BAYOU AREA:

            1. POD #2 is fully operational.  Located at 5556 Gulf Beach Hwy. Citizens must have proof of Cameron Parish residency.
Cameron Parish residences and business owners are encouraged to ensure contractors considered for restoration work be properly licensed with the State of Louisiana and the Cameron Parish.  You can verify the contractor is properly licensed with the State of Louisiana by visiting the following website:
